eAuction #10, Lot 91. Estimate: CHF 120.00
Traianus (98-117 AD). AE As (26-27 mm, 11.32 g), Rome (Roma), 101-102 AD. Obv. IMP CAES NERVA TRAIAN AVG GERM P M, Laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. TR POT COS IIII P P / S-C, Victory flying left, holding shield inscribed S P / Q R. RIC -; Woytek (MIR) 113h (same dies).
Extremely rare, the third one known. Stripped, otherwise, very fine.
Woytek knew just two specimens of this bust type in his 2010 corpus, one in Vienna, the other one in Eugubium FPL 14 (2004). Both are from the same pair of dies as our specimen, thus indicating a limited output of this variety.
