Ptolemaic Kings of Egypt. Ptolemy I Soter (305-282 BC). AR Tetradrachm (25-27 mm, 14.26 g), Alexandreia mint, c. 294-285 BC.
Obv. Diademed head right, wearing aegis around neck; small Δ behind ear.
Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΠTOΛEMAIOY, eagle standing left on thunderbolt; to left, P above monogram.
 Svoronos 255; SNG Copenhagen 70; BMC p. 15, 16.

Nicely toned. Banker's mark on obverse and graffiti on ob- and reverse, otherwise, good very fine. A pleasant coin.

On this coin we encounter the first true portrait of one of Alexander’s successors. The tiny letter Δ found in his hair behind the ear is the initial of the engraver, the so called Delta-Master.
