eAuction #21, Lot 124. Estimate: CHF 750.00
Postumus (260-269 AD). Billon Antoninianus (20 mm, 3.26 g), c. 268 AD, Colonia Agrippina (Cologne) mint. Obv. IMP C POSTVMVS P F AVG, Radiate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. RESTITVTOR GALLIAR, Postumus in military dress standing left, holding sceptre in left hand, right foot on captive, raising kneeling female figure wearing mural crown (Gallia). RIC 82; Elmer 587; AGK corr. 74; Cunetio 2452 (1 ex.!).
Very rare. Very fine.
The reverse praises Postumus as RESTITVTOR GALLIAR(um), the 'Restorer of the Provinces of Gaul'. With only one specimen in the huge Cunetio treasure, it belongs to the great rarities in the coinage of Postumus.
