eAuction #34, Lot 93. Estimate: CHF 250.00
Hadrianus (117-138 AD). AR Denarius (18 mm, 3.04 g), uncertain eastern mint, c. 128-132 AD. Obv. HADRIANVS AVGVSTVS P P, laureate head right. Rev. COS III, Fortuna (or Genius) standing left, holding rudder and cornucopiae. RIC III, -; see CNG MBS 63 (2003), 1353 for a slightly different coin of similar style.
Rare. Good very fine.
This interesting Denarius certainly comes from an eastern mint. The style is reminiscent to that of some of his Cistophoroi, thus making a common mint plausible.
