Gordianus III (238-244 AD). AE22 (5.84 g), Ephesos, Ionia. Homonoia issue with Alexandria in Egypt. Obv. AVT K M ANT ΓOΡΔIANOC, laureate and cuirassed bust to right, seen from behind. Rev. EΦECIΩN AΛEΞANΔPEΩN, Apis-bull to right, ornamented with crescent on flank, necklace and globe between horns. SNG von Aulock 1937. SNG München 283.
Very rare. Very fine / good very fine.
The reverse shows the Apis-bull famously associated with Egyptian culture, an appropriate type for a Homonoia-issue with Alexandria.
