Nero (54-68 AD). AE Sestertius (36 mm, 26.80 g), Lugdunum (Lyon), 65. Obv. NERO CLAVD CAESAR AVG GER P M TR P IMP P P, laureate head to left, with globe at point of neck. Rev. ANNONA – AVGVSTI – CERES / S C, Ceres, veiled and draped, seated left, holding corn-ears and torch, her feet on stool, facing Annona standing right, right hand resting on hip and left holding cornucopiae; between them, modius on garlanded altar. In the background, ships stern. BMC 307. Cohen 15. RIC 431.
Well struck on a large flan. Beautiful hard green patina. Minor smoothing on obverse, otherwise, about extremely fine.
