ΦΙΛΙΠΠΟΛΕΙΤΩΝ Mars, helmeted and wearing armor, standing left, resting his right hand on his shield and holding long spear with his left. RPC 353. Varbanov 618.
Thick, compact flan. Good very fine.

Under Domitian, Philippopolis issued a series of bilingual bronzes, an unusual and interesting phenomenon likely connected to Domitian’s Dacian wars in 85-89 AD.
