eAuction #49, Lot 56. Estimate: CHF 200.00
Traianus (98-117 AD). AR Tridrachm (25 mm, 10.55 g), 'Bostra', Arabia, 112-114. Obv. AYTOKP KAIC NЄP TPAIANOC CЄB ΓЄRM ΔAK, laureate bust to right. Rev. ΔΗΜΑΡΧ ΕΞ ΥΠΑΤO ζ Aquila between two signa; that to the left surmounted by wreath, that to the right by hand. SNG ANS 1162. Sydenham, Caesarea 224.
Reverse struck slightly off center, otherwise, pleasant very fine.
From the D.A.K. Collection.
The dies for this coin were certainly produced by the Rome mint. The issue must have served a military purpose connected to Trajan's activities in Arabia and later in Mesopotamia.
