Claudius (41-54 AD). AE Sestertius (36 mm, 24.21 g), Roma (Rome), 50-54. Obv. TI CLAVDIVS CAESAR AVG P M TR P IMP P P, laureate head to right. Rev. SPES AVGVSTA / S C, Spes advancing l., holding flower and raising skirt; countermark: NCAPR. RIC 115.
Fine to very fine, countermark very fine.
There is some debate over the reading of the countermark. Suggestions have been Nero Claudius Augustus Probavit or Nummus Caesar Augusto Probatus, the latter being applied under Vespasian.
