eAuction #55, Lot 96. Estimate: CHF 150.00
Ptolemaic Kings of Egypt. Ptolemaios II Philadelphos (285-246 BC). AR Tetradrachm (25-27 mm, 13.94 g), Sidon mint. Obv. Diademed head of Ptolemy I right, wearing aegis around neck; small Δ behind ear. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ ΠTOΛEMAIOY, eagle standing left on thunderbolt; to left, ΣT above monogram. Svoronos 714var (no monogram).
Pleasant surfaces. Several banker's marks, otherwise, almost very fine.
The tiny letter Δ found in his hair behind the
ear is the initial of the engraver, the so-called Delta-Master.
