Constantius II. (337-361 AD). AV Solidus (21-22 mm, 4.43 g, 6h).
Arelate (Arles) mint, AD 353-360. Obv. FL IVL CONSTANTIVS PERP AVG,
pearl-diademed, helmeted, and cuirassed bust facing slightly right,
holding spear over shoulder in right hand and shield decorated with
horseman motif in left. Rev. GLORIA REI PVBLICAE, Roma and
Constantinopolis, with right foot on prow and holding scepter in left
hand, enthroned facing, holding between them a shield inscribed
VOT/XXX/MVLT/XXXX in four lines; KONSTAN in exergue (TAN ligate). RIC VIII 233.
Very rare. Extremely fine.
Probably struck for Constantius' II Tricennalia in AD 353, see Beyeler 2011, p. 137, n. 774.
