eAuction #5, Lot 38. Estimate: CHF 200.00
Kings of Bactria. Archebios (c. 90-80 BC). AE square quadruple unit (22 mm, 6.88 g). Obv. BAΣIΛEOΣ ΔΙΚΑΙΟΥ ΝΙΚΗΦΟΡΟΥ ΑΡΧΕΒΙΟΥ, elephant walking right. Rev. Legend in karoshti around owl. Bop. Série 12B; SNG ANS 1308.
Very rare. Very fine.
Like a number of other Bactrian or Indo-Greek kings, Archebios is only known from his coins, which are usually found in Punjab near Taxila. He may have been a relative of Heliokles II, who used a similar coin type and titles.
