eAuction #5, Lot 99. Estimate: CHF 150.00
Severus Alexander (222-235 AD). AE As (25-27 mm, 10.51 g), Roma (Rome), 230 AD. Obv. IMP SEV ALEXANDER AVG, laureate bust right, dapery on left shoulder. Rev. VICTORIA AVGVSTI / S - C, Victory standing right, foot on helmet, writing VOT X on shield fixed to palm tree. RIC IV, 2, p. 119, 617; BMC 646 (same reverse die).
Turquoise patina. Very fine.
A very rare type with VICTORIA AVGVSTI instead of the dated P M TR P VIIII COS III P P, apparently known from a single reverse die.
