eAuction #5, Lot 85. Estimate: CHF 125.00

Hadrianus (117-138 AD). AE Sestertius (35-36 mm, 25.99 g), Roma (Rome), 119-121 AD.
Obv. IMP CAESAR TRAIANVS HADRIANVS AVG, laureate bust right, drapery on left shoulder.
Rev. PONT MAX TR POT COS III / S C / LIBERTAS RESTITVTA, Hadrian seated left on platform on right, extending right hand; facing him, woman standing right holding child on left arm and placing right hand on head of a second child at her side.
RIC III, p. 411, 568 (R2).

Rare. Green patina. Fine.

A rare reverse type, probably referring to a generous grant to poor children. Struck on an unusually large flan for the time.
