Vespasianus (69-79 AD). Aureus (19-20 mm, 7.36 g), Rome, 73 AD. Obv. IMP CAES VESP AVG CENS, Laureate head to right. Rev. PAX AVG, Pax wearing long dress and mantle, standing left, resting on column with her left arm, holding laurel branch in her left hand, with her right hand caduceus over purse on low tripod. RIC 543; BMC 96; Calicó 660.
A one-time composite reverse type, only used for Vespasian and Titus on some issues of 73 AD. With a powerful portrait of Vespasian and a wonderful reddish toning. Insignificant nick on edge at 1 o'clock. Extremely fine.
