L. Marcius Philippus. AR Denarius (18-20 mm, 3.82 g), Roma 56 BC.
Obv. Head of Ancus Marcius right, wearing diadem; behind, lituus; below, ANCVS. Rev. Aqueduct, on which stands equestrian statue; at horse's feet, flower; on left, PHILIPPVS downwards; within arches of aqueduct, AQVA MAR (ligate). Craw. 425/1; BMCRR Rome 3890.
Nicely toned, well centered and sharply struck. Good extremely fine.
The Aqua Marcia was, according to legend, built by Ancus Marcius (Pliny, NH XXXI, 41).
