eAuction #70, Lot 101. Estimate: CHF 35.00
Q. Caecilius Metellus. AE Quadrans (15-16 mm, 2.86 g), 130 BC. Contemporary imitation(?). Uncertain mint. Obv. Head
of Hercules to right, wearing lion skin headdress; ••• (mark of value) to
left. Rev. Prow of galley right; Q M I above; [•••] (mark of value) to
right, ROMA below. Craw. 256/4a var. (rev. legend); Syd. 510b
var. (same); cf. RBW 1046.
Brown surfaces. Good very fine.
This bronze has a reverse of fine style with a complex prow design, yet the coin is likely an imitation.
