 Scythian Dynasts. Koson (c. 50-25 BC ?). AV Stater (19-20 mm, 8.61 g), Olbia (?).
Obv. Roman Consul, togate, walking left between two lictors; below, KOΣΩN.
Rev. Eagle standing left on sceptre, holding wreath.
 RPC I, 1701; BMC Thrace p. 208, 2.

 Good very fine.

 Erasmus
of Rotterdam was the first to mention this enigmatic gold issue in
1520. There has been much debate over the centuries as to who issued
these coins, but they are usually attributed to a Scythian dynast named
Koson.
