Gordianus III (238-244 AD). AE Sestertius (31-33 mm, 24.52 g),
Rome, early autumn 243-summer 244. Obv. IMP GORDIANVS PIVS FEL AVG, Laureate,
draped and cuirassed bust to right, seen from behind. Rev. MARS PROPVGNAT / S - C, Mars advancing right, holding spear with his
right hand and shield in his left. C. 158 var. (not draped and not
cuirassed); RIC 332b.
Perfectly centered on a medallic flan. Green patina somewhat rough. About extremely fine.
