Heraclius (610-641 AD), with Heraclius Constantinus (613-641). AV Solidus (22 mm, 4.47 g). Uncertain eastern mint, possibly Jerusalem, Alexandria or Cyprus. C. 613-618. Obv. dd NN hЄRACLIЧS ЄT hRA CONST P P AVI, crowned and draped busts of Heraclius and Heraclius Constantine facing; cross above, exergual line below busts. Rev. VICTORIA AVςЧ A, cross potent on three steps; CONOB. Sear 851 (Jerusalem). DOC 187a (Alexandria). MIB 77 (Cyprus).
Rare. FDC.
The mint attribution of this rare eastern issue has been widely disputed. All we can say for certain is that is must have been issued during the turmoiled years 613-618 during which the Byzantines lost parts of Asia Minor, all of Syria and even most of Egypt to the Sasanids.
