Auctions-Katalog Sammlung Mme Ch[ristitch] vormals Dr. Fenerly Bey etc. Griechische, römische und byzantinische Münzen. 1400 lots, 27 plates.
4to, recent quarter tan leather binding, brown spine letters, original card
covers and extra blank pages bound in. Front card cover chipped, repaired and
faded; first few pages repaired at lower corner not affecting text. Interior
Good.

A note from BCD: Among the classic Egger sales, no serious library of
Greek coin auction catalogues can be without it. There are many nice and rare
coins illustrated but my eye always stops at lot 467, eventually acquired by E.
S. G. Robinson for Gulbenkian. All my collecting years I searched for a nice
specimen of this “Pheneos Master” obverse die and the only ones I could find
were BCD Lokris-Phokis 77 and 457.6, two very unattractive specimens. I remember
writing to the late Jean Vinchon and asking him if there was a chance for the
coin he sold as lot 491 in his 22 May 1959 auction to be bought from the buyer
and put back into auction. Monsieur Jean’s personal reply, typed on fine
quality paper under his elegant company letterhead, was that this particular
coin was not available but there are many others to choose from on the next
time I would pay him a visit…
