Kushan Kings. Kanishka I. (c. 127-152 AD). AE Didrachm (23 mm, 8.48 g). Obv. Kanishka standing left, sacrificing over altar to left and holding trident. Rev. Nanaia standing right, holding sceptre; tamgha in right field. MK 767.
Good very fine.
Kanishka I. is not only known for his important role in the beginnings of the Mahayana-Buddism but also for building one of the largest buildings of antiquity, the Kanishka-Stupa, reported to have been between 120 and 200 m high.
