eAuction #30, Lot 105. Estimate: CHF 1'000.00
Islamic coins. Umayyad. Al-Walid I (86-96 AH = 705-715 AD, Gold ⅓ Dinar (14 mm, 1.38 g), no mint, 91 AH. Walker p. 89; ANS 15.
Good very fine and very rare.
Ex Sotheby’s auction, 10 April 1992, lot 301.
From 91-103 AH, the Umayyads issued 1/2 and 1/3 Dinars to copy the Byzantine fractions of the Solidus: the Semissis and Tremissis. These 1/2 and 1/3 Dinars, called nisf and thulth, are all very rare today.
