eAuction #51 - Literature sale III, Lot 9. Estimate: CHF 35.00
[Baron
Behr] Lenormant, François. Description
des Médailles et Antiquités composant le Cabinet de M. le baron Behr, Ancien
Minister de Belgique à Constantinople. Paris 1857. Large 8vo (17.5x26cm),
recent quarter leather binding in red, original paper covers backed and bound
in, gilt spine letters; 229 pages, 3 plates of engravings. Foxing and
discolouration to some anterior and posterior pages including plates; owner
stamp. Interior Good. Lipsius p. 76.
A note from BCD: Lenormant has done a commendable job, especially on
the Roman Provincial descriptions and legends. The three plates of etchings are
as accurate as photographs and at the same time works of art in their own
right. Still useful and with a few hidden gems that will pleasantly surprise
the diligent reader.
