eAuction #51 - Literature sale III, Lot 23. Estimate: CHF 45.00
[de Magnoncour] de Longpérier, Adrien. Description des Médailles du
Cabinet de M. de Magnoncour. Paris 1840. Large 8vo (17.5x28cm), recent quarter leather binding in
red, gilt spine letters; 139 pages, 2 plates of engravings. Interior pages with
corners bent and/or slightly stained, text and plates without damage. Very Good. Lipsius p. 80.
A note from BCD: A publication that will amply reward the careful
reader, especially if interested in Roman provincial issues from the East.
Dardel’s engravings on the two plates are so accurate that there would not be
any difficulty today in recognizing the actual coins. The Roman Republic and
Roman Imperial coin lists at the end indicate the distribution by types and
emperors of the collection’s massive Roman section.
