eAuction #51 - Literature sale III, Lot 25. Estimate: CHF 20.00
Fillon,
Benjamin. Études Numismatiques. Paris
1856. 8vo, quarter bordeaux leather, marbled boards, gilt spine letters with
raised bands, marbled end papers; 179 pages, 5 plates of engravings. Binding
rubbed, nicked. Interior Very Good. Lipsius p. 41.
A
note from BCD: The author of this very
rare book on Medieval French coins had his collection sold by Rollin &
Feuardent and three other experts in a five day Drouot sale in March 1882, less
than a year after his death. The auction catalogue (not offered here) lists
only two Greek coins, a Philip II gold stater and a rare Syracuse bronze, both
described as FDC, in contrast to eleven Roman and many more French feudal and Mediaeval
coins.
