eAuction #50, Lot 30. Estimate: CHF 250.00

Theodoseia, Cimmerian Bosporus. AR Trihemiobol (8 mm, 0.81 g), circa 375-350 BC.
Obv. Facing head of bull.
Rev. ΘEOΔ, uncertain round object with tail (?).
BMC -. MacDonald -. SNG Stancomb -.

Apparently unpublished and unique. Beautifully toned. Good very fine.

While the ethnic is clear and allows a safe attribution to Theodoseia, the reverse type is hard to Interpret due to a light off center strike. It may be a specific grain, or even an uncertain animal. In any case, this type appears to be completely unknown; it is also the only Theodoseia Trihemiobol known with the bull's head on the obverse rather than the reverse.
