eAuction #27, Lot 24. Estimate: CHF 120.00
Hadrianus (117-138 AD). AE Diobol (23 mm, 7.06 g), Alexandria (Egypt), RY 15 = 130-131 AD. Obv. AYT KAI TPAI AΔPIA CEB, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind. Rev. Hadrian, raising hand and holding scepter, seated left on galley sailing left under direction of helmsman; vexillum on front deck; L I-E across fields. Dattari 1582; K&G 32.513.
Rare. Fine / about very fine.
An interesting issue, commemorating Hadrian's visit to Egypt in 130 during which Antinoos tragically drowned in the Nile.
