eAuction #4, Lot 46. Estimate: CHF 150.00
Kings of Bactria. Euthydemos I. (c. 235-200 BC or slightly later). AE double Unit (20 mm, 6.77 g). Obv. Head of Herakles right. Rev. BAΣIΛEΩΣ EYΘYΔHMOY, horse galopping right. Mitchiner, Indogreeks, 87; Bop. 160, série 17.
Some smoothing. About very fine.
Polybios records that Euthydemos was a Greek from Magnesia, but it is uncertain which city of this name he meant. Euthydemos was attacked by Antiochos III. the Great in 206 BC and besieged somewhat later in his capital Baktra but finally arranged a piece treaty with the Seleukid king in which they agreed upon the marriage of Euthydemos' son Demetrios to a daughter of Antiochos.
