eAuction #34, Lot 112. Estimate: CHF 5'000.00
Aurelianus (270-275 AD). AV Binio (21 mm, 6.36 g), Ticinum (Pavia), end of 274 AD. Obv. IMP C AVRELIANVS AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right. Rev. P M T B P VII COS II P P, Mars advancing right, holding spear and trophy. RIC online temp. 1546; RIC 16 (R2); Calicó 4024.
Very rare variety. Fields slightly wavy, otherwise, very fine.
The rare late Aurelian gold coins from the Ticinum mint are struck to a heavier standard than his earlier Rome / Siscia gold coins and are similar to his earlier AV Binio's with radiate head.
