eAuction #54, Lot 59. Estimate: CHF 200.00
Phlious, Phliasia. AR Tetartemorion (6 mm, 0.21 g), c. end 5th to early 4th Century BC.
Obv. Facing head of bull.
Rev. Φ in incuse square.
Williams 301 (same dies).
Extremely rare. Nearly extremely fine, dark find patina.
From the BCD collection and ex LHS 96 (2006), 99.
The three previously known examples of this coin were attributed to Phocis, but find spots make that very unlikely and requires the change in attribution. The bull's head is also very close in style to that on BCD Peloponnesos 98, the reverse of which is clearly Phliasian.
