L. Titurius L. f. Sabinus. AR Denarius (19 mm, 3.94 g), Roma (Rome), 89 BC. Obv. Bearded head right of the Sabine king, Tatius; SABIN downwards to left, palm frond below chin. Rev. Two soldiers, facing each other, each carrying off a Sabine woman in his arms. Crawford 344/1a.
Struck off-centre. Very fine.
The reverse refers to the myth of Tarpeia, a Vestal Virgin who betrayed the city of Rome to the Sabines.
