Caracalla (197-217 AD). AE (31 mm, 19.74 g), Hierapolis-Kastabala, Cilicia, c. 197-211 AD. Obv. AVT KAI MAP AVPH ANTWNЄINOC, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind. Rev. IЄPOΠOΛЄITWN KACTABAΛЄWN, Tyche standing left, holding rudder and cornucopiae, to left, ears of corn. SNG Levante 1592 (same obverse die).
Very fine.
The ears of corn, a very unusual attribute for Tyche, refer to the agricultural wealth of the polis.
