eAuction #45, Lot 60. Estimate: CHF 100.00
Traianus (98-117 AD). AE20 (5.42 g), Abdera, Thrace. Obv. AYTO TPAIANW KAICAPI CEBACTW Laureate head of Traian right. Rev. AYTO TPAIANW KAICAPI CEBACTW Laureate head of Traian pater (?) right RPC 672 (1 specimen).
Extremely rare, a single specimen known to RPC. Minor cleaning scratches, otherwise, very fine.
The identification of the second portrait is difficult. Strack in AMNG thought it might be Trajan Pater, as suggested by Mionnet, though officially Trajan Pater shouldn't be laureate. Other suggestions have been Divus Nerva, a second portrait of Trajan or Hadrian.
