eAuction #46, Lot 33. Estimate: CHF 100.00
Geta Caesar (198-209 AD). AE24 (6.42 g), Ninica-Claudiopolis, Cilicia. Obv. POP SEPTIMIUM GETAM CAESAREM (!), laureate, draped and cuirassed bust to right, seen from behind. Rev. COL NINICA CLAVΔIOPO within wreath. SNG Paris 786. SNG Levante 612.
Rare. Nearly very fine.
From the François Righetti Collection.
An interesting issue with a most curious obverse legend. The misspelled reverse legend with the Greek Δ instead of the Latin D indicates a Greek die cutter who was a bit overchallenged with the Latin.
