eAuction #51 - Literature sale III, Lot 2. Estimate: CHF 20.00
Connolly,
Peter. Greece and Rome at War.
Englewood Cliffs, NJ, 1981. 4to, hardbound, black with gilt embossed title and
spine letters; 320 pages, illustrations, topographic maps and photos
throughout. Bookplate, lower margin of cover edgeworn. Very Good.
A note from BCD: “…a splendid book which should appeal to a wide range
of readers” wrote Professor H. H. Scullard in his introduction. Having had the
privilege to own some of the ancient coins from his dispersed collection after
he passed away in 1983, I can say with confidence that he was not exaggerating.
The ancient coins pictured here are to illustrate specific historical events
but the rest of the book makes for fascinating reading.
