eAuction #47, Lot 36. Estimate: CHF 100.00
Skepsis, Troas. AR Hemidrachm (12 mm, 1.63 g), c. 450-400 BC. Obv. Forepart of Pegasos right; Σ-KH-ΨI-ON around. Rev. Palm tree in square linear and pellet borders; all within shallow incuse square. SNG Tübingen 323 (Diobol). A.R. Meadows, The Earliest Coinage of Alexandria Troas, 56 Taf. 3,15 (same). SNG von Aulock 7643 (Drachm).
Very rare. Striking weakness, otherwise, very fine.
The weight, wich is half the Drachm weight of around 3.5 g, indicates a Hemidrachm rather than a Diobol.
