eAuction #47, Lot 3. Estimate: CHF 1'000.00
Terina, Bruttium. AR Stater (23 mm, 7.41 g), c. 420-400 BC. Obv. TEPINAION, Head of nymph to left, wearing pearl necklace and with her hair bound in a sphendone; behind, tiny Π. Rev. Nike seated left on cippus, holding bird perching right on wreath in her right hand and resting her left on the cippus; below to right, tiny Π. HN III 2616. Holloway-Jenkins 61. Regling 63.
Of magnificent style and struck on an unusually broad flan. Very fine.
The tiny Π on both dies is likely the signature by an artist being justifiably proud of his work.
