eAuction #51 - Literature sale III, Lot 145. Estimate: CHF 25.00
Numismatic Fine Arts, Inc. West Hollywood, CA, 31
March 1987. Auction XVIII. Ancient Coins, Part I, Greek Coins & Coins of
the Seleucid Kings. 401 lots, 41 + 2 colour plates and an additional 17 plates
of enlargements. Estimates sheet and prices realized list. Dark gray
illustrated covers rubbed and bent. Interior Very Good. Kroh p. 43
A note from BCD: The first part of the auction offers quite a number of
fine Greek coins, often with enviable pedigrees but it is the second half,
admirably written by Cathy Lorber, that steals the show. The blend of
numismatic scholarship, history and readability is indeed remarkable. It would
not be an exaggeration to say that this auction catalogue was instrumental in
starting the ever-increasing popularity of Seleucid coinage among both scholars
and collectors during the last decades.
