eAuction #50, Lot 136. Estimate: CHF 1'500.00

Lucilla. AR Drachm or denarius (18 mm, 3.03 g), uncertain mint in Mesopotamia (Carrhae or Edessa?), after 167
Obv. ΛOYKIΛΛA CEBACTH, Draped bust right.
Rev. YΠEP NIKHC TΩN KYPIΩN, Demeter (?) standing left, holding corn-ears and long sceptre.
Cf. RPC online temp. 8629 (differing reverse legend, naming Ma'nu VIII Philoromaios).

Extremely rare and apparently unpublished. Very fine.

This issue is connected to Mesopotamian silver coins with imperial portrait on the obverse but bearing the name of Ma'nu VIII Philoromaios (167-179) on the reverse. He was the king of Oshroene which had become a client state of the empire in the course of Lucius Verus' Parthian campaign few years before.
