eAuction #55, Lot 259. Estimate: CHF 50.00
Constantine I 'the Great' (306-337 AD) for Constantinus II. Caesar. AE Nummus (18-19 mm, 3.26 g), Treveri (Trier), c. 327-8 AD. Obv. CONSTANTINVS IVN NOB C, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust left, fur over left shoulder. Rev. PROVIDENTIAE CAESS, campgate with two turrets, star above; STRE in exergue. RIC VII, p. 212, 505.
Nice portrait. Superb extremely fine.
The exact meaning of the fur over the left shoulder is unclear. It only occurs on late Roman coins from the Trier mint.
