eAuction #57, Lot 346. Estimate: CHF 7'500.00
Switzerland. "Fribourg 100 Franken 1934" Coin-watch. Movement by the prestigious firm Piaget&Co (Geneva), around 1965. Inserted into a 100 Franken Tir Federal Fribourg 1934, Bern mint. Coin-watch with keyless winding and setting by the crown, in yellow 18 carats gold, circular shape, with invisible binding and lettered bond; opening secret at 3 hours on the bond. Golden metallic dial, with black painted radial indexes. Blued steel "baton" hands.
Dimensions: 32.4 mm (diameter) / 3.6 mm (thickness); 26.69 g. Signature: "PIAGET&CO / SWISS".
Extremely rare, most probably one of only two coin-watches built using the 100 Franken Fribourg 1934. Interesting horological-numismatic item. Uncirculated.
To realize this kind of coin-watch, the case builder has to use two coins, what makes a high price for this kind of article, and their rarity. Except Piaget, several watch companies did, during XXth century (twenties, then 1960/1970), produce this kind of watches: Audemars Piguet, Eska, Patek Philippe, Rolex, etc.
