Marcus Antonius. Aureus (20 mm, 7.93 g), mint moving with Marcus Antonius 41 BC. Obv. M·ANTONIVS·IMP·III. VIR· R·P·C·, Head of M. Antony to right; behind, lituus. Rev. Extremely rare and with a good portrait. Some areas of flatness, otherwise, very fine.
This rare aureus was struck at a mobile military mint while Mark Antony was in route t his residence in Ephesus after jointly defeating Brutus and Cassius at Philippi with the young Octavian. The reverse refers to the consulship of his brother, Lucius Antony.
