Tabaristan, under the Abbasids. AR 1/2 Dirhem (23-24 mm, 1.93 g), 120 AH = 771 AD.
Obv. Crowned Sasanian-style bust right, "Afzut" instead of ruler name before.
Rev. Fire altar with attendants flanking; star and crescent flanking flames, date to left, mint to right; triple circle border with alternating star-in-crescent and triple pellet motifs.
