eAuction #62, Lot 52. Estimate: CHF 250.00
Syria, Seleuceia. Pseudo-autonomous AE20 (5.80 g), tempus Traiani. Obv. IEP ACYA AYTONOMOY, turreted, veiled and draped bust of Tyche to right, palm branch over right shoulder. Rev. CEΛEYKEWN ΠEIEPIAC, sacred stone of Zeus Kasios with fillet attached within shrine consisting of four pillars supporting a pyramidal roof surmounted by an eagle; beneath, ZEYC KACIOC, in field, right, Γ. RPC 3790 (1 specimen); BMC 29.
Extremely rare, very likely the second known example, the other one being the British Museum specimen serving as the RPC plate coin. Good very fine.
Our specimen confirms the reading ΠEIEPIAC rather than ΠIEPIAC.
