Iustinus II, with Tiberius II (26 September - 5 October 578). AV Tremissis (16-17 mm, 1.42 g), Constantinopolis (?). Obv. DN IVSTINVS PP AVI, Diademed, draped and cuirassed bust to right. Rev. Extremely rare and possibly the second specimen known. Very fine.
This issue was probably struck during the joint reigns of Iustinus II and Tiberius II or during the sole reign of Tiberius II, using an obverse die from the previous reign.
For a similar specimen from a different pair of dies, see Spink, Numismatic Circular 1990, lot 6718 = Stack's, The Golden Horn Collection 2009, lot 3106 (sold for $ 2800 + fees).
