Lucania, Metapontum. AR Distater (24 mm, 15.51 g), c. 340-330 BC. Obv. Bearded head of Leukippos to right, wearing Corinthian helmet
decorated with a charioteer driving fast quadriga to right on the bowl
and a tiny hippocamp left on the side; behind, forepart of lion to right
and AΠH. Rev. METAΠONTINΩN Barley ear with leaf to left; above leaf,
vertical club with head below; below leaf, AMI. HN Italy 1574; Johnston
Class B1.1; SNG ANS 431.
Darkly toned. The obverse a bit rough,
otherwise, good very fine.
