Thouria, Messenia. AE Trichalkon (?) (19 mm, 4.19 g), c. 60s-40s BC. Obv. Diademed head of Zeus right. Rev. ΘOY, Athena standing left, holding spear right and resting left on shield at her side; to right, grain wreath; to left, NIKΩNYMOΣ. Grandjean Series III, pl. XXVI, 11 var. (different size); BCD Peloponnesos 827 (this coin).
Very rare. Very fine.
From the BCD and Hollscheck collections; ex LHS 96 (2006), 827.
Possibly a separate denomination, unnoticed by Grandjean, see comment in the BCD catalogue.
