eAuction #10, Lot 100. Estimate: CHF 250.00

Severus Alexander (222-235 AD). AE Sestertius (29-30 mm, 24.75 g), Roma (Rome), 224 AD.
Obv. IMP CAES M AVR SEV ALEXANDER AVG, laureate, draped and cuirassed bust right, seen from behind.
Rev. LIBERALITAS AVGVSTI II / S - C, Liberalitas standing left, holding cornucopiae and so-called "abacus".
RIC IV, 2, 567 var. (bust type).

Very rare. Pleasant surfaces. Very fine.

Banti knew just a single specimen, but with a different bust type. Cf. CNG MBS 84 (2010), 1113 for another specimen, similar to ours.
