Septimius Severus (193-211 AD). AE Sestertius (30-31 mm, 24.88 g), Roma (Rome), 195-196 AD. Obv. L SEPT SEV PERT AVG IMP VII, laureate head right, drapery on left shoulder. Rev. DIVI M PII F P M TR P III COS II P P / S - C, Roma seated left on shield, holding Victory and spear. RIC IV, 1, p. 187, 700.
Scarce. Excellent portrait. Some reverse corrosion, otherwise, very fine.
In 195 AD, Septimius claimed to have been adopted by Marcus Aurelius by calling himself DIVI MARCI PII FILIVS.
